Chassis:
The first of three VPJ4s built, this was the example used by Mario Andretti in the Vel's Parnelli Jones Racing team's Formula 1 debut. Following the two outings at the very end of the 1974 season, Andretti drove this car on three more occasions in 1975. He retired from the Argentinean Grand Prix and then placed seventh in Brazil and seventeenth at Kyalami for the South African Grand Prix. Although the chassis was upgraded to the latest specification, it was not raced again. Today, it is owned by an American enthusiasts, who regularly campaigns chassis 001 in historic events, usually wearing a replica of Mario Andretti's helmet.
