Chassis:
Completed early in 1964, this 904 was delivered new to its first owner Fritz Leineweber through Porsche dealer Rittersbacher of Kaiserslautern. An accomplished privateer racer, Leineweber extensively raced his latest acquisition, starting with a class and outright victory in the Hunstrück hill-climb. He would go on to score many more (class) wins with the 904 until early in 1966 when he traded the car in for an even more potent 904/6. The car was subsequently sold to a racer from Venezuela, who campaigned the car as late as 1972. By that time, it had been fitted with a more reliable six-cylinder engine. During the 1970s, it was sold to the United States and fitted with a new Type 578/3 engine. By 1986, it was back in Europe and has since changed hands only a few few times. In the most recent ownership, it was submitted to a $800,000 restoration executed by Raceline Feustel GmbH. They went as far as using the original bench on which the very first 904 had been constructed.
