Chassis:
The second of three Mexico-based machines bodied by Frua, this car was shown as the 5-Litri Prototipo at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show. Despite what the name suggests, this car in fact is powered by the 4.7-litre engine also fitted in the regular production Mexico. Of the three Frua-bodied examples, this car is the most subtle and still recognisable as a Mexico. Following its completion, the car was delivered to Maserati, who sold it to a Spanish customer in 1970. Although it did change hands several times, it remained in Spain until the mid-2000s. It was then acquired by a Belgian enthusiast, who had it carefully restored. The unique Frua Coupe has since been shown with great success at events throughout Europe. One of the absolute highlight was a class win during Maserati's 100th anniversary celebrations in the fall of 2014.
