Chassis:
A rare custom coach-built Cord L-29, this example was clothed by Murphy of Pasadena, California with a Town Car body, a style not available directly from Cord. One of just four known to have been built, this is the only one known to have been built on the shorter of the wheelbases available. It was most likely bought new by Hollywood actress Dolores Del Rio, while two of the other three were also owned by stars of the silver screens and the fourth by Errett Lobban Cord himself. Following its spell in the Los Angeles area, it had ended up in Oregon during the immediate post-War years. Here it was found and bought by noted Cord collector, the late Jay Hyde. Only rarely seen in public, this rare custom-bodied L-29 was part of his collection until his death in 2014. In remarkably original condition, it has been consigned to the inaugural Bonhams Amelia Island auction by Hyde's estate.
