Chassis:
The fourth of six GTP Mk IIs produced by Dan Gurney's All American Racers, this was Juan Manuel Fangio's primary car for the 1990 and 1991 seasons. He used it to score all of the type's five outright victories. Following its retirement from contemporary racing, it was acquired by former AAR racer Dennis Aase. In subsequent ownership, it was displayed for many years in the Museo Fangio in Argentina. Liveried in the colours of its maiden victory at Heartland Topeka, it was offered at auction early in 2015, in seemingly virtually complete but non running condition. Chassis 004 was then acquired by a prominent American collector. He had the car restored to full running by Canepa. It required a lot more work than initially expected as the car turned out to be an assembly of parts, which not necessarily belonged to the car. The work was finally completed in 2017 when the car was raced at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
