Chassis:
Chassis 83G/04 was delivered new to Holbert Racing, who fitted it with a Porsche flat-six turbo engine. It was raced with great success by Al Holbert and Jim Trueman, scoring six outright wins in 1983. At the end of the season they were crowned IMSA Champion. In 1984 the March-Porsche was campaigned by South African Sarel van der Merwe in Kreepy Krauly colours. Together with compatriots Graham Duxbury and Tony Martin, he won the Daytona 24-Hours race. Van der Merwe added a further win to 83G/04's tally at Lime Rock. The car was raced into 1986 but could match its early success.
The most successful of all March GTP cars, chassis 83G/04 was eventually fully restored to its debut livery with CRC and Red Roof Inn sponsorship. In this guise it is seen here during the 2009 Monterey Historic Races. Ahead of the Daytona 24 Hours 50 anniversary celebrations in 2012, the car was refinished in the Kreepy Krauly colours used in the 1984 victory. The Porsche-engined March has now been consigned to Gooding's 2014 Amelia Island auction. The pre-sale estimate is a hefty $750,000 - $1 million.
