Chassis:
Built in 1984 by Swedish team Magnum Racing, this 240 Turbo initially served as a spare car. Following a crash at Brno with one of the sister cars, it was pressed into service for the 11th round of the European Touring Car Championship at Zolder. Driven by Ulf Granberg and Robert Kvist, it was driven to a breakthrough victory. This was not only the first win for a Volvo in the ETC but also a first for a turbocharged car. At the end of the year, the car returned to Sweden where it was rebuilt before being sold to Artur Mendes. He campaigned the car for several years both in the local Portuguese touring car championship and in hill-climb events.
Following the 1988 season, the car was retired from contemporary racing and put into storage. It remained unseen from the world for two decades. Still owned by Mendes, it was then raced some more in hill-climb events. In 2014, it was sold to a British historic racer, who had it restored to its original configuration by specialists Moto Historics. Since the 2014 Dix Mille Tours, the new owner has campaigned the car with considerable success in the Historic Touring Car (HTC) series, organised by Peter Auto. In 2015, the car came within a point of clinching the championship, let down only by an uncharacteristic gearbox failure at the final round.
