Chassis:
Originally sold in July of 1952 to an enthusiast from Rome, this Vignale Berlinetta was sold back to the factory before the end of the year. Chassis 0168ED was almost immediately shipped to American distributor Luigi Chinetti, who found new owners in brothers Peter S. and Robert Yung. They debuted the car with an impressive 8th overall and 2nd in class in the 1953 Sebring 12 Hours. The brothers continued to race the 225 S with considerable success until the end of the year. It was then acquired by a Santiago Gonzales from Cuba. He campaigned the car in local events before selling it back to the United States in 1957. From 1971 through to his death in 2008, the rare Ferrari was owned by noted collector Donald R. Wasserman. During the 1970s, he replaced the Chevrolet V8 fitted at the time with a modified 250 GT engine that closely resembled the original 225 V12, which by then had found its way into a 166 MM. Wasserman showed and raced the car regularly, taking a first in class at Pebble Beach in 1979. After it was sold by the Wasserman estate, chassis 0168ED was acquired early in 2013 by a Swiss collector and historic racer.
