Chassis:
Using 225 S underpinnings, this is the very first Ferrari fitted with a three-litre version of the Colombo or 'short block' V12 engine. The unique '250 S' was clothed by Vignale with a coupe body before it was entrusted to Giovanni Bracco and Alfonso Rolfo for the 1952 Mille Miglia. Facing very strong opposition, the works supported entry managed to win the event outright. To mark this victory, the production version of the three-litre competition Ferrari, introduced in 1953, was dubbed the 250 MM. Following its Mille Miglia win, the 250 S was extensively raced by a succession of prominent drivers including works pilots Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi.
Chassis 0156ET's contemporary racing career ended late in 1954, when it was returned to the factory. In 1955, it was sold on to the United States. A subsequent owner showed the car at Pebble Beach in 1974, clinching a second in class award. A decade later, it was also raced in the Monterey Historics. Following a spell in Sweden, it was eventually acquired by the late Lorenzo Zambrano in the early 1990s. He had the car restored to its original configuration by Steve Tillack. It has since been shown and campaigned regularly at events throughout North America.
