Chassis:
One of at least two Carrera Abarth GTLs sold new to The Netherlands, this example debuted at the 1961 GP Zandvoort in the hands of Ben Pon and Carel Godin de Beaufort. The Dutch pairing finished second overall. It was then raced by Pon, joined by Godin de Beaufort for the long distance events through to the end of 1963 with considerable success. In 1962, they fielded the car at Le Mans with factory support but an ignition failure ended the charge early. Pon's final outing with the car was at the GP Angola and instead of shipping it back to Europe, he sold the car to an enthusiast in South Africa. In more recent years, it was owned by an American historic racer. In Swiss hands for the last couple of years, it was restored to its 1962 Le Mans colours ahead of the 2020 historic racing season.
