Shown at the 1938 Paris Auto Salon, the first owner of this Touring Berlinetta is not known. The subsequent owner, Angelo Biemmi, carefully hid it on his estate during the War. It was then acquired by Alfa Romeo dealer Emilio Romano, who removed the supercharger to make it elligible for the 1947 Mille Miglia. Although the power of the straight eight engine was now down to 137 bhp, Romano still managed to secure the victory with veteran Mille Miglia racer Clemente Biondetti sharing the driving duties. This was the 11th and last win in the Mille Miglia for Alfa Romeo. Shortly after the historic Mille Miglia win, the car was sold to Argentina where it was raced only once more. It was eventually fitted with an American engine and when it was found by collector Lucio Bollaert, in 1966, it was in rather poor condition. He managed to get enough parts together to rebuild a proper 8C 2900 engine and spent six years restoring the car. In the early 1980s, it was sold to the United States and then on to Japan. At this point, it was restored once more and to a higher standard by Tony Merrick. After a spell in the hands of Brazilian collector Carlos Monteverde, it was bought at auction by the current owner in 2000. He had it restored for a third time before displaying it at the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
