Chassis:
The second of just two 340 Americas fitted with a Berlinetta body by Touring, this example was sold new to an enthusiast in Rome. Reportedly, he returned the car to Ferrari more than 15 times for repairs and revisions before selling it on to Switzerland in 1954. Before the end of the decade, chassis 0126A was sold to the United States where it eventually received an American V8 engine. During the 1970s, it was restored and fitted with a replacement engine from a 250 GT Cabriolet. During the late 1980s, this 340 America was sold back to Switzerland. Here it was fitted with a new engine that was understood to have been built around the original block but with freshly cast heads. Following brief spells in Japan and Mexico, it has been American ownership since the mid-1990s. Its most recent custodian acquired the car in 2009 and showed it shortly after at the 2010 The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering.
