Chassis:
Chassis 904-008 was the first of the two eight-cylinder engined 904 Coupes built. It debuted at the 1964 Targa Florio where it was driven to a class victory by Umberto Magioli and Edgar Barth. It subsequently failed to finish at the Nürburgring and Le Mans, and was not raced again during the 1964 season. At the start of the following year, it was pressed back into service and entered for Gerhard Mitter and Herbert Linge for the Sebring 12 Hours. The German pairing finished ninth overall and first in the two-litre prototype class. Its final contemporary appearance came at the 24 Hours of Le Mans where it was shared by Colin Davis and Gerhard Mitter but failed to finish due to issues with the clutch. Retained by Porsche, it is today displayed in the Porsche Museum as part of the Targa Florio display.
