Chassis:
Ahead of the 1969 season, young English gentleman racer Ian Skailes part exchanged his two-year old Chevron B6 for a brand new B8 with the chassis number CH-DBE-79. The dark green B8 was raced extensively throughout the 1969 season, making appearance in national and international events. By his second outing with the B8, Skailes finished on the podium and he also grabbed pole position at Snetterton against Andrea de Adamich in a factory Alfa Romeo 33/2. After a successful year with the B8, Skailes decided to sell the car with an eye on acquiring the new B16. Chassis CH-DBE-79’s next custodian was Helmut Höch, who fitted his own BMW M10 engine and first raced the B8 at the Norisring late in June. He would race the car into the 1971 season and did not actually sell it until 1979. The new owner was period B8 racer Chris Smith, who sold the car to Peter Bennett in 1984. He raced the car in Thundersports events and then sold it to the United States the following year. The car remained in single ownership until 2005 and was then acquired by Francois Castaing. By that time, it had been painted blue. Chassis CH-DBE-79 was repatriated to England in 2008 and subjected to a comprehensive restoration to its original colours and configuration at the hand of marque expert Gelscoe Motorsport. The well documented was offered many years later by William I’Anson and in new ownership debuted a the 2026 Spa Classic.
