Chassis:
Built ahead of the 1969 season, this Eagle Mark 5 was acquired new by Carroll Smith of Milestone Racing for Tony Adamwicz to race. He debuted with a third overall at Riverside but then suffered three retirements in a row. These would be his last of the year and in the next eight races he would not finish out of the top five once, scoring two wins and a further four podiums along the way. This proved sufficient for Adamowicz to win the Continental Championship ahead of David Hobbs in a Surtees. For the final round of the year, the Chevrolet V8 was replaced by a Ford V8 with a 22nd place finish as a result. The successful Mark 5 was sold to George Boscoff, who had intended for John Morton to race it during the 1970 season. The deal fell through and the car was stored in a closed trailer for 25 years.
Chassis 510 was eventually acquired by Joe Cavaglieri, who in turn sold it on to the late Doug Magnon for his Riverside International Museum. Virtually untouched since it last raced in 1969, it was eventually restored by Bill Losee. Recognising the car's potential, Magnon decided to entrust the car to Adamowicz once more and on the 40th anniversary of his Continental Championship win, the talented American racer won the historic Formula 5000 championship. Magnon would continue to own the car until his untimely death in 2015 and Adamowicz added several more victories to its tally. The car was sold at auction from Magnon's estate in August of 2016 and sadly, Adamowicz passed away two months later. This hugely successful Eagle has never been raced by anybody but Adamowicz, who was as successful in period as in historic races with chassis 510.
