Sold new to Garage Francorchamps, this 512 was raced as an 'S' during the 1970 season by Belgian Hughes de Fierlant. He was joined by a choice of drivers including Derek Bell for the Spa 1000 km and Alistair Walker for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The best result came at Le Mans where De Fierlant and Walker finished fifth overall and fourth in class. After two appearances early in 1971 in its early guise, it was upgraded to 'M' specifications for Le Mans. It was raced by De Fierlant and Alain de Cadenet but failed to finish. Following a win in a minor race at Zolder, it was sold on to De Cadenet to race at Watkins Glen. He competed in both the six hours and Can-Am races with a fourth as the best result. The next custodian was Anthony Bamford, who entered it in local races during 1972 for Willie Green. Its subsequent owners regularly campaigned the car and it even appeared in the 1993 Tour de France retrospective. Following spells in Japan and France, it was acquired by a Hong Kong-based collector in the mid-2010s. In 2015, the Ferrari Classiche certified 512 M was out at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where Derek Bell's successful career was celebrated. In 2018, it changed hands again before it was consigned as one of the headliners of the 2025 RM Sotheby’s Paris sale.
