Chassis:
Finished in what the British press described as 'vomit green' this 904 was delivered new to the Stirling Moss Automobile Racing Team (SMART) early in 1964. It debuted late in March at Goodwood when it was driven by John Whitmore in the Lavant Cup. Shortly thereafter, it was rolled by Hugh Dibley during a test. Although the damage was not very substantial, it was deemed speedier to ship a replacement chassis from Germany instead of making the necessary repairs. For carnet reasons, the new chassis, born as 904-088, was re-stamped 904-025 but the original chassis was not scrapped. The remains of the car were sold to Porsche mechanic Theo Geiger. Over the years he assembled an impressive collection of original spare parts to rebuild the car but eventually never got around it. In 2010, Geiger sold chassis 904-025 to specialists Freisinger Motorsport, who finally repaired and rebuilt the ex-Stiriling Moss Porsche 904. Now owned by a German enthusiast, it is meticulously prepared for historic racing by Mario Linke's team.
