Chassis:
One of three 959s built by Porsche for the 1985 Paris-Dakar rally, this car was entered for Dominique Lemoyne and René Metge. They won two stages before a ruptured oil line prompted its retirement. This was the extent of its contemporary racing career and the car was placed into storage until it was sold to a private customers. As such it became just one just two privately owned examples of the five surviving Dakar cars. During the 2000s and 2010s, it was owned by a Virginia-based Porsche collection. Restored to full running order, it was fitted with a three-litre 911 Carrera engine, while an and most likely the original 935/83 Paris-Dakar was still with the car. In 2018, it was consigned to the RM Sotheby's Porsche 70th anniversary sale where it far exceeded the pre-sale estimate and topped the auction at just under $6 million.
