Chassis:
Finished in silver metallic, this 904 was ordered new by American enthusiast Steve Earle, who would later famously found the Monterey Historic Races. The car was sold to Earle through Beverley Hills dealer Otto Zipper, who eventually bought the car back from Earle before it was ever raced. Zipper then fielded the car for famous Hollywood TV producer Kurt Neumann during the final months of the 1964 season. The following year, it was raced by Steve Berg, who had the car fitted with Le Mans type brakes and re-painted dark blue. Berg would race the car through to March of 1966. Shortly thereafter, it was sold to actor Robert Redford in whose stable it would remain for nearly a decade. By the late 1970s, it was owned by noted historic racer Jim Tidwell, who had the delicate four-cylinder engine replaced with an equally powerful but much easier to run flat six. In 1982, chassis 904-012 was acquired by Belgian enthusiast Stefan Talpe. During his 34-year ownership the 904 was re-finished inn Irish Green. In 2016, it changed hands once more and three years later it was consigned to the January, 2019 Bonhams Scottsdale sale.
