Chassis:
Completed in the spring of 2001, this is the first 550 GTS Maranello built by Prodrive. It made its first appearance at the test for the Spa 24 Hours but issues prevented it from clocking a time. It did appear briefly in the Hungaroring round of the FIA GT Championship but a fuel system issue caused an early retirement. The car was withdrawn from the Spa 24 Hours but returned to action at the A1-Ring where Peter Kox and Rickard Rydell won the FIA GT race outright. Rydell won again at Jarama, this time with Alain Menu as the co-driver. From 2002 through to 2004, it was campaigned by the Italian BMS Scuderia Italia team. It did well but eventually no further (class) victories were scored. From 2005, it was raced by the Czech Menx team and it won its class at the Silverstone 1000 km race. Retained by Care Racing Development after its contemporary career, it was eventually sold to a British historic racer during the early 2020s. It was meticulously restored by Prodrive to its original livery and was demonstrated at the 2023 Goodwood Members’ Meeting.
