Chassis:
The third FW14B built, this was the car used by Nigel Mansell during the opening rounds of the 1992 season. Mansell qualified the car on pole for the first five Grands Prix of the year and went on to win on each occasion. The Englishman campaigned the car in two further races and it was then fielded for Patrese six times more but no additional victories were scored. Its final outing came at the Portuguese Grand Prix where Patrese nearly somersaulted the car after hitting Gerhard Berger's suddenly slowing McLaren. Although not used again, the five-time Grand Prix winning FW14B was carefully repaired. In full running order, it was eventually sold by Williams to a discerning American collector. From his stable, the hugely successful machine was consigned to the 2019 Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed sale.
