Chassis:
Built in 1994 for a Japanese enthusiast, this McLaren F1 was originally finished in Midnight Blue Pearl with a black interior. In 1999, it was sold to a German collector, who sent the car to McLaren the following years for two rounds of upgrades. During 2000 and 2001, it became only the second of two F1s fitted with the 680hp LM specification engine. Equipped with the F1 GTR specification High Downforce Kit, it was also refinished in a platinum silver metallic exterior with a beige and brown Alcantara interior. Shortly after the upgrades were completed, it was sold to an Singapore-based collector and then three years later, in 2007, it moved to New Zeeland. With just 21,500km on the odometer, it was consigned over a decade later to the 2019 RM Sotheby's Monterey sale where it recorded the top sale of the week at $19.8 million. This was a new world record for a McLaren sold at auction.
