Chassis:
Finished in November of 1958, this covered headlights 250 GT California Spider was sold new to Texas attorney M. Steven Deck. It was originally finished in ruby red with a beige leather interior and built on the improved 508D chassis that was equipped with the more powerful 128D V12 engine. In 1962, the Ferrari was sold to Florida and briefly raced in local SCCA events by noted sports car racer Ross Durant. The car changed hands several times with owners including Anthony Wang and Hans Thulin before it joined the stable of James George in the early 1990s. It was then shown at all of the major events before passing through several more notable hands. In the mid 2010s, it was rebuilt once more and Ferrari certified. During this period, it was also re-painted again, to a period correct Grigio Vinovo, a non-metallic grey. Shown at the 2018 Cavallino Classic and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance with great effect, it was then consigned to the Gooding Pebble Beach Auctions. Sold just shy of $10 million, it was the most expensive car in the sale.
