Chassis:
The 13th Series I Cabriolet built, this example was sold new to Prince Alessandro 'Dado' Ruspoli. It was finished in metallic grey with a black leather interior. Chassis 0789GT was one of just four fitted with covered headlights, bumperettes and side vents. The young aristocrat did not hold on to the 250 GT Cabriolet long as it was with its second owner in 1959 already. In the next decade, it changed hands several time until it entered the longtime ownership of Guglielmo Collizolli. He had the car restored, re-painted burgundy and fitted with Dunlop disc brakes. In the next decade and a half, Collizolli used the car extensively in events and rallies throughout Italy. The next custodian was noted collector Fabrizio Brigato, who added the car to his stable in 1988. Some two years laters, the car made its almost inevitable journey across the Atlantic to join an American collection. The first American owner was Ron Hein, and he had the car restored a second time. Following a bare-metal restoration, the exterior was painted black while a green leather interior was fitted. The work was completed in 1994, and was immediately awarded 100 points and 'Best in Class' at Pebble Beach. Shown regularly during the next few years, it found new ownership in 1998. In more recent years, it has rarely been seen until it was consigned to the 2019 Gooding Pebble Beach Auctions.
