Chassis:
Built as a spare ahead of the 1989 season, this chassis served as a T-car, while the Sauber-Mercedes team raced the C9s built in 1988. It was brought to Le Mans ready to go but ultimately, it was not raced. The fresh bodywork fitted to this car was then switched for that of the Le Mans winning chassis as that car was needed back in action just two weeks later at Jarama. Some of the Le Mans winning bodywork remains on the car to this day. The un-raced chassis remained with Peter Sauber at Hinwil for many years until it was acquired by the Donington Collection. In more recent years, it passed to a British collector. He had the car carefully recommissioned by specialists BBM Motorsport in time for the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed where 125 years of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport was celebrated. It was demonstrated by its owner and ace historic racer Joe Twyman. Following its appearance at Goodwood, it was acquired by one of the former Sauber-Mercedes works drivers, who brought the car back to Goodwood in 2021.
