Chassis:
One of nine DB4 GTs built to Lightweight specifications, this example was sold new to gentleman racer Phil Scragg. It was finished in Wedgewood Blue with a black Connolly leather interior. Spragg requested two non standard items; a heater and glass door windows, while a radio was later fitted. The car was also equipped with a low axle ratio, presumably with hill-climbs in mind. The car was raced a couple of times before being sold to the second owner in 1962. At that time the radio was fitted and the perspex wind-up windows were replaced with glass. In 1965, the DB4 GT passed to the late Malcolm Cramp. In 1974, he had the original David Brown four-speed gearbox replaced with a ZF five-speed example. By 1991, it had already covered over 115,000 miles. In November of 2007, Aston Martin Works Service performed an engine rebuilt and enlarged the displacement to 4.2 litres. While the interior has survived in original condition, the car was also resprayed to a different shade of blue. After over 50 years of single ownership, chassis 0169/R was consigned by Cramp's estate to the 2019 Bonhams Bond Street sale at no reserve.
