Chassis:
Originally finished in white with a red interior, this BMW 328 was delivered new to the Automag, which was the BMW dealer in Munich. Following the War, it was acquired by an American army officer. Shortly thereafter, it was sold on to Major General Edward B. Giller. He had the car painted olive drab and stars added to the side of the car to ensure it was eligible for free fuel on the base. At the end of the year, Giller moved back to the United States and the car was shipped to the East Coast. It was then driven home to Oregon by Giller and his wife. It would remain with the family for the next 75 years and was used as a daily driver for many years. Over this period, it was restored where needed and also repainted once more. The family let go of the car at the 2020 Gooding & Co. Scottsdale Auctions where it sold for a startling $830,000 or nearly twice the top estimate.
