Chassis:
After Zagato worked their magic on the Alfa Romeo 1900C SS chassis, this example was sold new to Barcelona based enthusiast and gentleman racer Esteban Sala. Although the engine was tuned for racing by Conrero, there are no records that Sala used this car in competition during his ownership. The car was later sold to Switzerland and by the late 1950s, it had followed so many of its contemporaries, to the United States. Having changed hands several times, it was eventually repatriated to Italy in 1991. Here it was comprehensively restored with 383 hours spent on the mechanicals alone. It has since been campaigned in select events, particularly the Vernasca Silver Flag hill-climb and also the Mille Miglia retrospective. Following a 30-year ownership, it was then entrusted to Bonhams and offered at the British company's 2020 Les Grandes Marques du Monde sale in Paris.
