Chassis:
The seventh California Spyder built, this example was sold new to Geneva--based enthusiast Jean-Claude Simon. It was fitted with covered headlights and most likely finished in a light metallic exterior colour. Registered in Switzerland, it was also seen in Cannes during Simon's ownership in the hands of his friend and Grand Prix driver Baron Emmanuel 'Toulo' de Graffenried. It was later reportedly also used by actress Brigitte Bardot. The next documented owner was Ado Vallaster, who was a Swiss architect and a great Ferrari enthusiast. Through Dutch dealers Rob de la Rive Box and Rudy Pas, it was sold to Japanese collector Minoru Kawamoto. At some point, it was fitted with a different 250 GT engine and then restored by J.R. Vallandigham of Houston. Before selling the California Spyder to the United States in 1998, it was re-united with the original engine. During the early 2000s, it was comprehensively restored by specialist Tillack & Co. over a two-year period. Fully Ferrari Classiche certified, it was then shown at Pebble Beach, the Cavallino Classic and The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering with great success. It was then sold at auction in 2009 to a Southern California based collector. From his stable, it was consigned to headline the 2020 Gooding & Co. Amelia Island Auctions.
