Chassis:
Completed in November of 1964, this is the first of three TZs fitted with a fibreglass body by Balzaretti & Modigliani. The chassis was virtually identical to that of the TZ2 but Chiti figured that the car would be more competitive in its original, fully homologated body design. This allowed the car to run in the GTS class instead of the prototype only GTP class. A works car, the brand new machine was fielded in the Tour de Corse, where it finished second overall and first in class. It was then raced by Teodoro Zeccoli and Bruno Deserti at Sebring in early 1965, finishing third in class. Zeccoli was then joined by Carlo Zuccoli for the Targa Florio where the TZ sadly failed to finish.
It was sold by Autodelta in 1967 to an Italian enthusiast, and was eventually acquired by Alfa Romeo specialist Angelo Chiapparini in 1985. A renowned Alfa Romeo engine tuner, Chiapparini was also a master behind the wheel. He raced the car with great success in historic events through to 2000. Chassis 750107 was then sold to British collector Hugh Taylor by Stephen Griswold. chassis 750107 was subsequently owned by noted Zagato collector David Sydorick and John Clinard. In more recent years, it joined the stable of an Italian historic racer, who still remembered vividly racing against the car with Chiapparini at the wheel. In 2018, the car returned to the track, still sporting the Chiapparini colours and crucially, engine.
