Chassis:
The second Santa Ana Eagle built, this chassis served as a spare and was used only in practice at Indy. Retained by AAR until the early 1970s, it was eventually sold to Bob Allen to replace his damaged F5000 car. Fitted with a five-litre stock-block engine, it was then raced with some success in local F5000 races by Allen and later also by Ross Hansel. The next owner was Phil Rendahl, who continued to campaign the car until an accident in June of 1978 finally ended its contemporary racing career. During the 1990s, it was briefly raced with a Ford V8 F5000 engine in historic events. It was then shown in Bob Pond's museum for many years. From his estate, it was offered at auction in 2007 and and again in 2014. By that time, it had been completely restored to its original configuration.
