Chassis:
Painted silver metallic and fitted with a blue velour upholstery, this 904 was sold new to Ernesto Prinoth from Bolzano, Italy. He had actually ordered three cars through Paul Ernst Strahle but this is the one he kept for himself while the others went to Paolo Colombo and Giacomo Maioli. Prinoth campaigned the car in several local hill climb events before selling it on in 1968. It moved to North America was acquired later that year by its third owner, Leslie Gunnarson of Orange, California. He had the car painted red and the interior re-trimmed to make it more comfortable on the road. He regularly showed and drove the car during the next two decades before it was parked in his collection. Here it remained for a remarkable 50 years in a time-warp condition, retaining its original, matching number engine. By the spring of 2020, it was entrusted to Gooding & Co. as a private treaty sale.
