Chassis:
Finished in red and fitted with the optional power windows and air conditioning, this 288 GTO was completed in February of 1985. It was sold new to German collector Hartmut Ibing, who was a 250 GTO owner at the time. Shortly after picking the car up at Maranello, he drove it from Germany to Cannes. Here it was stolen from the hotel parking garage only to resurface in Los Angeles. It was acquired by an unaware dealer in Scottsdale before it was tracked down by the private detectives of the insurance company. Once back in Ibing's possession, it was returned to the factory for a check up. It remained in Ibing's ownership until 2001, when it was acquired by American collector Rollie Stephenson. He had the car federalized, so he could use it on the road. Its third owner from new bought the car from Stephenson in 2010. With just 23,555 km on the odometer, it was consigned a decade later to the May, 2020 RM Sotheby's online only Driving Into Summer sale.
