Chassis:
Commissioned by French racer Pierre Jaillardon from Marseille, this 904 was completed in March of 1964. Jaillardon campaigned the car at a nearby hill-climb race before selling it on to compatriot René Maucort. He raced the cars in rallies and hill-climbs during the 1965 and 1966 seasons with considerable success. A frontal accident at the end of the 1966 brought the car's contemporary racing career to a close. It was then sold without the engine and gearbox to Jose Piger, and it subsequently passed through several more hands before it was acquired by Heinz Kurek. Between 1975 and 1979, he restored the car, fitting it with a six-cylinder. It then spent time in the United States with Bruce Canepa and Kerry Morse before returning to France in 1989. It was restored again and then sold to Marcel Petitjean in 1993. Chassis 904-062 remained part of his collection until 2020, when his entire stable was consigned at no reserve to RM Sotheby's online-only European Sale.
