Chassis:
Completed by Prodrive in February of 2001, this is the second 550 GTS Maranello built. It was campaigned by the Care Racing factory team in the 2001 Petit Le Mans and 2002 Sebring 12 Hours with little luck. It was far more successful in Europe where it was raced by Scuderia BMS in the FIA GT Championship. Raced to the end of 2004, it scored 14 (class) victories with an outright win in the 2004 Spa 24 Hours as the absolute highlight of its career. It was also that year's championship winning car. Not raced since, it has recently been restored by Prodrive to full running and still retains the Spa 24 Hours winning engine. Offered on the open market for the first time, it was consigned to the online only RM Sotheby's Shift/Monterey auction. A rare opportunity indeed, it sold for nearly $4.3 million, making it the most expensive car ever sold at an online only collector car auction.
