Chassis:
Built around one of a believed eight aluminium honeycomb tubs built by Jim Chapman, this GTP specification 962 was acquired new by Bob Akin Motor Racing. Finished in the familiar Coca Cola colours, this was the last 962 acquired by Akin's team and the first one he did not personally drive. It was raced three times during the 1987 season with a fifth at Road America as the best result. During its three outings, it was driven by James Weaver, Vern Schuppan and Hurley Haywood. Akin would retain the car until 1991, when it was sold to Tom Green. He, in turn, kept chassis 962-C04 for over a decade, not selling it on until 2002. It was restored to full running order by Sean Creech Motorsport. Since then, it changed hands several times and was only used sparingly. By 2020, it was in the ownership of a German gentleman racer, who debuted the car at the 2020 Monza Historic.
