Chassis:
One of the very first C-Types sold to a customer, this example was ordered new by Ian Stewart and prepared for him by Ecurie Ecosse. It was entered in the 1952 Jersey Road Race but it was so new that it had to be run in on the island. Still painted green, it proved immediately competitive and Stewart won straight out of the box. He continued to campaign the car with great success on the British Isles during the 1952 and 1953 seasons. In the 1952/'53 winter, the team finally found the time to repaint the car in the trademark Ecurie Ecosse colours. Sold at the end of 1953, it was raced by Dutchman Hans Davids in 1954, scoring wins at Spa and Zandvoort. Following its contemporary racing career, it eventually made its way to the United States. In the early 1970s, it was repatriated and entered the longterm ownership of a British family in 1974. It was eventually sold at Christie's 2006 Retromobile auction and is today part of a formidable collection of Jaguar competition cars.
