Chassis:
Built ahead of the 1985, this was the fourth of around a dozen Renault 5 Maxi Turbos built. It was sold new to Renault Spain, who fielded the car for Carlos Sainz, who the Rally Valeo and Rallye Sierra Morena in 1986 with this car. As there was a delay sorting the homologation in Spain, it was eventually registered with a prototype chassis number PT8220E00001 in place of the actual factory number of VF1822100F0000704. The car was then campaigned by Guillermo Barreras, who raced the car in four-wheel drive trim with great success in the Spanish Gravel Rally Championship in 1988 and 1989. Following its contemporary racing career, it was acquired by Olivier Quesnel for Michel Hommell's Manoir de l'Automobile museum. It was restored to its Carlos Sainz colours and configuration, and displayed in the museum. Along with the rest of Hommell's Group B collection, it was offered at Artcurial's 2021 Paris Sale.
