The fourth from last 300 SL Roadster built, this example was fitted with an alloy block engine and disc brakes. It was finished in White Gray with Graphite Gray hard-top and a black leather interior. It was sold new to an enthusiast in Paris but soon made it across the Atlantic when it was acquired by American actor Robert Horton. He would keep the car for nearly a decade and then the third owner sold the 300 SL Roadster to Gordon A. Beck in 1979. The Mercedes-Benz mechanic and 300 SL specialist would keep the car until his passing. From his estate, it was sold from his estate in 2006 to a West Coast collector, who had the car cosmetically restored. One of the subsequent owners then commissioned Paul Russell to complete a complete mechanical restoration. Retaining its matching number alloy engine, and boasting all the desirable late production features, chassis 3255 was sold for a startling $3 million at the 2021 Gooding Pebble Beach Auctions, which far exceeded the top estimate.
