Chassis:
Through New York distributor Max Hoffman, this C-Type was sold new to Florida-based racer John 'Jack' Rutherford. It was finished in cream white with a suede green interior. Commander Rutherford was timed with the Jaguar at 134.07 mph during the 1953 NASCAR Speed Week at Daytona Beach. In 1960, XKC 014 was acquired by David S. Burtner, who fitted a Plymouth Valiant slant-six and a Borg Warner gearbox. Also fitted with a Positraction rear-end and Buick disc brakes, the C-Type was pressed back into action and campaigned in SCCA events. The car changed hands again during the late 1960s and was eventually repatriated to Europe in the 1980s. In 1988, it joined the stable of noted collector Burkhard von Schenk. He had the car comprehensively restored and re-fitted with the original engine and gearbox that had remained with the car. The work was complete in August of 1990 when the C-Type was registered for the road. Among the subsequent owners was Skip Barber but following it second spell in the United States, it once again returned to European hands. In 2021, it was consigned by a European collector to the RM Sotheby's London sale.
