Chassis:
Completed in June of 1954, this 500 Mondial was one of just five Pinin Farina Spiders with a low grille and covered headlights. Finished in red with a white stripe and fitted with a three-litre engine, it was driven to victory in Monza Supercortamaggiore by Mike Hawthorn and Umberto Maglioli. Refurbished at the factory and fitted with a two-litre engine, it was sold to William K. Carpenter through Bill Frick Motors. Carpenter did not end up racing the car and returned to car to Frick. It was then sold to Paul Norair and he embarked on what would become a lengthy North American racing career for the car. Subsequent owners would continue to campaign the car through to the end of the 1958 season. During the 1970s, it was fitted with a replacement engine and then entered a long-term ownership in 1980. The Berkeley, California based custodian would cherish the car until his passing. From his estate, it was consigned to the 2022 Gooding Pebble Beach Auctions.
