Chassis:
Finished in metallic grey, this Zagato Coupe was completed in March of 1955 and sold through dealer Franco Venturi to a young Roman racing driver Sergio Bettoja who competed under the pseudonym ‘Pegaso.’ He immediately raced the car in the Giro di Sicilia before selling at the end of the month to fellow Roman Vittorio Randaccio. He raced the car in both the 1955 and 1956 editions of the Mille Miglia. In 1958, a subsequent Italian owner, sold the 1900C SS to an American Navy Captain stationed in Europe and later exported to the United States. In 1962, the car was acquired by Marvin Katz, who drove the Alfa Romeo for a year before placing it in storage. It only resurfaced again in 2002 and then changed hands twice before it was comprehensively restored by Wayne Obrey’s Motion Products Inc. during the late 2010s. Retaining its original engine and Zagato bodywork, it was shown at Pebble Beach and in the Cavallino Classic. The veteran of two Mille Miglias was then consigned to the 2023 Gooding & Co. Amelia Island Auctions.
