Chassis:
Completed late in 1967, this 275 GTB/4 was originally finished in hazelnut with a black leather interior. Through Bill Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors, it was delivered new to Steve McQueen. He had the car immediately repainted maroon and fitted with the aerodynamic wing mirror and wire wheels from his crashed 275 GTB NART Spyder. McQueen used the car to commute to the set of Bullitt before selling it to fellow actor Guy Williams. In the hands of a subsequent owner, it was damaged in an accident. During the 1980s, it was repaired and converted to NART Spyder configuration by Robert Straman. Among the subsequent owners were noted collectors Andrew Pisker and Peter Harburg. During the early 2010s, it was acquired by Le Mans winner Vern Schuppan. He entrusted the car to Ferrari Classiche and Bacchelli & Villa for a restoration to its original configuration using many original components saved from the previous conversion. In 2014, it was acquired by the late British collector David Moores. He showed the car at a variety of events. From his estate, it was consigned as one of the headliners of the 2023 RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
