Chassis:
Finished in cream with a red interior, this D-Type was completed late in 1955 and dispatched to North America in December. Through Jaguar Cars New York, it was acquired by Floridian Guy Jackson. It was raced only twice in his ownership before it was sold to the next custodian in July of 1957. It was campaigned in local vents through to 1960 by the second and third owner. The car remained in the United States until the early 1970s and it was then sold Chris Drake. He used the car extensively during the next two decades in historic events. The next owner had John and Gary Pearson restore the car and at this time, it was painted green. While the front and rear body sections were replaced at this time, they were preserved and are still with the car. In 1999, the D-Type joined the collection of actor Nicolas Cage. He sold the car on 2001 when it entered long term ownership of a prominent American collector. From his stable this well maintained D-Type was consigned to the 2023 RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
