Chassis:
The penultimate C9 built, this chassus was used by Jochen Mass and Jean-Louis Schlesser to win four of the eight rounds of the 1989 World Championship. It was also used in practice at Le Mans but for the race a T-car was used. After its retirement it was sold to a Swiss collector who held onto it until 2008. It was offered by Bonhams in their Retromobile sale where offers failed to meet the reserve. A month of behind the scenes negotiating eventually resulted in a sale. The price of this rare racing car was believed to be in excess of 1 Million pounds.
There was more good news announced after the sale; the new owner intended to prepare the car for historic racing. In an incredibly short time the C9 was reconditioned and made a victorious debut at the Spa round of the Historic Group C championship. A month later the car was campaigned during the legends race at Le Mans. It has since been a regular in the Group C Championship, although in recent years, it has seen less action as the owner also added a slightly later C11 to his stable.
