Chassis:
Delivered new to the United Kingdom, this 300 SL Roadster was repatriated to German by Merz & Pabst in 1960. It was then acquired by Carlheinz Straub of the Straub’s Upholsterey Collection. It then changed only twice more before it joined a long term ownership in 1984. It was submitted to a comprehensive, four-year restoration between 2008 and 2012. During this process, the bodywork was separated from the spaceframe chassis and both of which were dry-ice treated. The alloy-block was rebuilt and converted to run on unleaded fuel. Since the restoration, the 300 SL Roadster only covered 1,434 before it was consigned to the 2023 Bonhams Zoute sale, where it will be offered for the first time in nearly four decades.
