Chassis:
Commissioned by German racer Nikolaus Killenberg, this is the only left-hand drive B8 built by the factory. Killenberg was good friends with Dieter Basche, who was the head of BMW Motorsport at the time. Together they campaigned the car in several events including the 1000 km races at the Nürburgring and Monza during the 1969 season. In total, the Killenberg competed in the Nürburgring 1000 km three times with this this car. He would go on to race the car into the 1970 season, scoring several podium finishes in minor races and also a victory at Zolder. It was then acquired by a Dutchman named Kees Kwinkelberg, who competed in local events, mainly events through to 1973. Kwinkelberg placed the Chevron in storage and did not sell it until the early 2000s.
The B8 went to another Dutchman, who had plans of restoring the car but he sadly passed away before he could do so. The B8 was acquired by the current custodian from the widow in 2017. It retained the original chassis, a period racing engine with Chevron dry sump, original gearbox, original bodywork and even the correct car cover. Since then, the B8 has been restored and is regularly raced by the owner and his son. In 2024, it was driven to victory in the Surtees Trophy during the Goodwood Members’ Meeting, beating a colourful field of Ford GT40s and Lola T70s.
