Chassis:
Built late in 1957, this 507 Roadster was one of 13 delivered new through Venezuelan distributor Gustavo Zingg. It was acquired new by Gustavo Quintero, who requested for it to be re-painted from its original silver to Feather White to match the famous 507 Roadster of Elvis Presley. Being a late 1957 Series II model, chassis 70082 benefits from most developments carried through during the production run. It was also fitted with a factory hard-top, Rudge centre-lock wheels and a Becker Le Mans radio. It is believed that Quintero raced the car between 1958 and 1961 but there are no written records of this early competition history. In the late summer of 1961, the car was offered for sale and passed to its second custodian for $4,179. He also used the car fastidiously and by 1966, it had already accrued 72,750 km. At this point, it was extensively serviced and a few years later, it was re-painted ultramarine blue. During the mid-1980s, it was reconditioned and once again painted white. In 2013 correspondence with BMW, it was confirmed that the car is still fitted with its original, matching numbers engine. Having been stored in a climate controlled garage for a decade but still with only its second owner from new, 70082 was consigned to headline the 2024 Bonhams Quail Lodge Sale.
