Chassis:
Several years after production of the 959 had officially ended, an enthusiast from Macau commissioned the construction a further six examples. Porsche could accommodate this request as there were sufficient shells left over from the original production run. With the original cars sold at a loss, Porsche did raise the price of this batch of ‘Series II’ cars from DM420,000 to DM750,000. Chassis 291 was the second from last of these second generation 959s built. Although assembled in 1993, it was mechanically identical to the 1988 Komfort cars with minor exceptions. The interior was subtly revised and the car also featured an improved adaptive damping system. This car was originally sold to the Far East but was repatriated to Europe through Swiss dealer Lukas Hüni, who sold the car to Anthony Maclean. Based in both Switzerland and the United Kingdom, Maclean used the 959 for many cross-continent drives. He sold the car at auction in 2001 and among the subsequent owners were the likes of Peter Livanos, Juan Barazi and Floris Dullaart. All custodians shared an enthusiasm for driving and it has racked up well over 70,000 km over the years. Regularly serviced, it also received the ‘Stage II’ turbo upgrade, which raised the power to 542 bhp. In 2024, this rare Series II Porsche 959 was consigned to the Bonhams Quail Lodge auction.
