Chassis:
Fittingly dubbed the ‘Last Waltz’, this is understood to be the last air-cooled Porsche 911 to leave the factory. It was commissioned by German author Claus Vanderborg through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch department. The custom work would take sixth months to complete, which explains why this was the last 993-generation Porsche 911 to leave the factory but not the very last built. Among the options fitted were an uprated, 450 bhp engine, strut brace, twin-pipe exhausts, oil cooler and an enlarged 92-litre fuel tank. The car was finished in Ocean blue with matching Brembo brake calipers. The bespoke interior was upholstered in Night Blue leather. The car was finished on March 27th, 1998, which coincided with the date of Ferry Porsche’s passing. The 911 Turbo did not leave the factory until September 5th, 1998 and was delivered to Vanderborg through Porsche Centre Altötting, who added the ‘Last Waltz’ kick plates. The German author would own the car for little over a year before it was sold to Japan. Here it remained for 16 years and was subsequently in Belgian hands with a brief sojourn to the United Kingdom. With little over 11,000 km on the odometer, this significant Porsche 911 Turbo was consigned to the 2024 Bonhams Goodwood Revival sale.
